[APAC-Discuss] Threats to an Open and Free Internet #Verisign's Patent Application

Dear APRALO,

I would like to raise my concern over the Patent Application filed by
Verisign with the United States Patent and Trademark Office. I feel that
this Application is an immediate and direct threat towards an open and free
Internet. I write as an individual member of PICISOC and my views do not
necessarily reflect the view of my Chapter as an ALS nor does it reflect
the views of APRALO.  My views do not reflect the view of the ALAC on this
matter. I would be interested in hearing your various perspectives on this
matter. What are *your* views?

Verisign's Patent Application reminds me of something the Director General
of WIPO Gurry had said re: the Internet being better off it was patented,

Just in case people are tempted to think that this was a prank given that
they filed it on the 1 April 2011, I have searched the USPTO and it is a
