In short, if you look back at the list of NomCom appointees, you will
find quite a few who did very little during their two years but come to
meetings. Little contribution, little involvement in any of our
activities, etc.<br><br>
If you look at the history of those appointed by the NomCom more than
once, you find very few people. Some went on to other things in ICANN.
Others either chose not to continue, or reapplied and were not
selected.<br><br>
So the challenge is to try to attract people who can be recognized by the
NomCom as people who will become involved.<br><br>

<li>consumer/public interest advocacy
<li>leadership/governance
<li>knowledge/experience in local/regional issues
</ul>And critically:

<li>a willingness to serve as a volunteer, without compensation other
than the reimbursement of certain expenses
<li>an ability to work and communicate effectively in English (although
there is no requirement that English be the candidate's first language)
</ul>Just my two cents - but whatever the small group decides - it will
be really helpful to any selection committee to be very clear about what
are the really important skills/experience/ability being sought
(and the current list doesn’t do that)<br><br>

The NomCom selects five ALAC members and over the years, some have done
