*the comments you forwarded from Amr Elsadr, on the contribution of the
regretted Shaarawy Abdel-Baki to the Egyptian political "renaissance", make
me realize how important the brave action of people in the Maghreb and
Mashrek regions have a bearing on us all, for instance in Europe or the
Americas. A generation or two ago, social activism was mostly circumscribed
to one's own neighbourhood or country, but electronic communications, the
Internet and social networking have turned all of us into the concerned
inhabitants of a global village.*
*To the family of Shaarawy Abdel-Baki, to Egyptians who espoused the cause
he fought for, I send my condolences.*
