Subject: Cooperation in New gTLD Communications

Dear Chairperson, Stakeholder Group Leader,
As you know, the New gTLD program will soon change the Internet in important ways that affect all users. As we heard from the public comment during the Dakar meeting, ICANN community members are committed to participating in the communications campaign; employing their expertise, knowledge and spheres of influence to inform potential applicants and users of the coming changes.
We agree with the sentiment expressed by those comments: to combine forces in order to educate the users in all regions about the coming change to the Internet. With mutual support between the informative materials we’ve created thus far, and your regional and stakeholder group contacts, we will be able to reach many organizations.
In August we asked community members to recommend events and awareness raising opportunities in their regions. We received and followed up on many recommendations and provided speakers and material for most events suggested. (You can review the calendar of past and future events<http://newgtlds.icann.org/program-status/upcoming-events> on the New gTLDs site.)
In order to make the most of our global community's knowledge and networking capabilities, we have prepared an array of educational materials that are available on the New gTLD microsite and listed below. These materials provide a high-level look at specific areas of the program with reference back to the appropriate section of the Applicant Guidebook for more detailed information. These materials are not promotional, but neutral, educational, and informative; providing a balanced view of both the positives and negatives of new gTLDs. There will soon be additional, knowledge-based reference materials.
Please find below lists of materials that are available for you to use as you see fit to help raise awareness about the program. We continually add to these resources; if you have an idea for a fact sheet, presentation, or video that would be helpful in informing your interest group about new gTLDs, please let us know. There are additional summaries addressing trademark protections and other topics. Please also let us know if you need any material in a language that we have not provided. Though we can’t promise to fulfill every translation request, we will do our best to get translations for items that receive multiple requests.

You may also contact me. Additionally, there may be limited opportunities for coaching on certain topics in preparation for use.
It is important to understand that these materials are the property of ICANN. They can be shared universally but should not be adopted as the work product of another entity or labeled with the logos or other indicia of ownership / authorship by any other entity. As you no doubt understand, given the competitive landscape and potential collision of interests in the new gTLD progam, it is important to maintain these distinctions. It is recognized also that many constituency / stakeholder members are planning to participate tin the new gTLD program. Potential for conflicts of interest must be careful considered and addressed.
