Dear AfRALO Members, At-Large Staff

When considering the critical attributes of an ALAC NomCom member, comprehensive community knowledge and broad relational connections stand out. I value diverse perspectives and options, so I am nominating Dave Kissoondoyal as the ALAC delegate to the NomCom for the African region.

Dave’s dedication to inclusivity and transparency in Internet governance has been evident since his initial involvement with ICANN in 2009. This commitment is important for this NomCom role especially for selecting candidates for ICANN’s leadership positions.

His continued activity within ALAC until November 2023 and prior service as the AFRALO delegate in 2016 and 2017 reflects his deep understanding of and commitment to ICANN’s mission. Fluent in English, French, and Hindi. Dave’s ability to connect across cultural and linguistic barriers enhances his capacity to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders.

If selected, I am confident his contribution to NomCom will significantly increase AFRALO’s visibility and value.

On behalf of Jonathan Zuck, ALAC Chair, we would like to announce that the 2024 call for nominations for At-Large leadership positions is now open.

Positions Open:

Please refer to the 2024 ALAC and RALO Elections, Selections, and Appointments workspace  for a comprehensive list of all available positions, their criteria and job descriptions, and whether current holders of the positions are eligible for re-selection. 

Selection Schedule for ALAC Members, RALO Leadership, and ALAC Delegates to the NomCom:

15 April 2024 - Announcement of call for nominations and Nominee's Statement.* (Except for NARALO that requires a call for nominations 30 days: 28 March 2024).
15 April – 26 April 2024 - Nomination period (nominations accepted for 10 working days). 
3 May 2024 - Deadline for nomination acceptances
6 May 2024 - 9 May 2024- Calls with the candidates if desired by the RALOs. 
10 May - 24 May 2024 - Elections (If required, elections will begin no later than one week after the deadline for nomination acceptances and end no later than two weeks after that deadline). 
2024 AGM [ ICANN81] - Newly elected ALAC Members and RALOs Leaders shall be seated at the end of the 2024 AGM following the close of the Board Meeting on 14 November 2024.

Process for Nominations: 

Nominations including self-nominations, must be made directly to the relevant RALO mailing list and by sending a note to At-Large staff. 

All nominees are expected to submit a brief statement explaining why they believe they are a suitable candidate to At-Large staff.  All nominees must also complete or update their Statement of Interest (see: At-Large New SOIs Workspace).

IMPORTANT: Criteria for NomCom Delegates

Please note: RALOs may recommend one or more candidates to the ALAC. The appointment of NomCom delegates is carried out by the ALAC. Therefore, RALO recommendations are not binding

Due to NomCom transition Section 27.5, the ALAC NomCom Delegate appointments for the 2025 NomCom will be for three (3) one-year terms and two (2) two-year terms. The ALAC will determine how it will allocate these terms.

Specific criteria and requirements regarding the NomCom composition and NomCom delegates are outlined in the ICANN Bylaws in Article 8.
