 Good day
I also support giving a try to the hubs. I have seen these working for IETF meetings. Universities can assist in hosting these hubs
Kind Regards

  1. Re: ICANN to Hold First-Ever Remote Public Meeting
      (Etienne Tshishimbi)
Good morning all

For Ms. Fatimata's question, I would say that in order for this remote participation does not negatively influence African participation. In the French-speaking space that I know relatively. I suggest that we try to work on putting in particular devices in French-speaking digital campuses (Agence Universitaire de la Francophonie) to ensure massive participation.

Dear Pierre,
Just to thank you for looking into how this community can make the most of the remote based meeting. AFRALO will be available to support on this and do kindly keep us posted and let us know how we may be able to help and contribute our part.
As to the hubs it's something worth trying out, I know that igf hubs worked well in the past and I recall ICANN has tried to use some form of hub in the past as well. I think they can be planned for main cities in our region and our ALS spread can be leveraged upon in this regard.

Good morning to all,

Fatimata has put an interesting question about possible impact on participation from our region.

While awaiting for more details on the ICANN first ever remote public meeting, could we share any ideas on possible ways to mitigate the adverse impact on participation from Africa?

The GSE Africa team will be happy to support.

Pierre

Dear members,

The ICANN Board has decided not to hold a face 2 face meeting in Cancun instead the first remote based public meeting will be held.

"LOS ANGELES – 19 February 2020 – The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) today announced that its ICANN67 Public Meeting, which was to be held in Cancún, Mexico, will now be held via remote participation-only. This decision was made as a result of the COVID-19 outbreak, considered a public health emergency of international concern by the World Health Organization"

We shall provide further updates on our planned meeting of the Africann/AFRALO session as soon as we get more clarity on the schedule. However, for now drafting of our statement is in progress and as per the timeline a draft will soon by shared by the drafting team for your comments.
