Sarah,
Is there a way we can accommodate both Barracks and Wisdom’s idea.
ICANN’s open data is important for us as a region, how can we make use of it?
EPDP is also a topic that should be of high interest to us.

Dear all,
Thinking broadly, the open data initiative initiated by ICANN president is one of the good initiative that will help address the issues of data collection, processing, transfer, access and non-public data, linscing etc. We should also take into consideration the kind of technology or tools that might be needed in data collection and also help in linking platforms.
The key objective of this the topic should help facilitate the design, development and implementation of:
1. a robust mobile and cloud based data collection software
2. Monitoring and Evaluation Software Solution
3. Integrated solution to Management Information System
4. Infrastructure setup
The ICANN open data initiative in general should help address the following:
1. To gather and publish accurate, reliable and robust data across regions and national levels
2. To obtain integrated Information across various dataset such as population, services and classification that will inform decision making
3. To make evidence base decision making for improved policy, regulatory and institutional framework.
4. Enhanced data production, quality, dissemination and application.
5. Possess the ability to make basic spatial queries and full data analysis
All of this when executed well should bring about the following benefits:
1. Accurate, rich and better data
2. Real-time reporting and statistical analysis
3. Cost effective solution for gathering, analyzing and sharing data
4. Improved productivity by reducing time, paper, administrative and management cost
5. Better security and data confidentiality
6. Better registry records and data format
7. Mobile Data Collection Platform for Online and Offline Data Collection
We should also not forget the fact that data protection most times goes along side open data and all that comes with it, this will also help us understand more issues of data collection etc.

Dear Colleagues,
I hope this email finds you well. The ICANN63 meeting in Barcelona, Spain is only about 1.5 months away. We plan to have the Joint AFRALO-AfrICANN meeting as agreed during the AFRALO monthly call on 5 September 2018. This is a call for topics for the statement for the meeting.
We have several topics to choose from since we are now commenting on the initial report of the new Generic Top Level Domain (gTLD) subsequent procedures Policy Development Process (PDP) Working Group (an open round or consecutive rounds, Universal Acceptance, application fees, applicant support, community applications, etc). We also have the Expedited Policy Development Process (EPDP) working now and we may choose to give our opinion as a region on several aspects of the temporary specifications like data collection, processing, transfer, retention, and access to non-public data).
This wide range of topics mentioned above are given as examples. Of course, you may suggest other topics if you so desire.
As is the norm, the topic that receives the most support will be selected. A drafting team will then be constituted to prepare the statement.
Please note that the final statement should be prepared early to allow it to be translated into French before ICANN63. We request that you please send your topics by Thursday, 13 September 2018 at 23:59 UTC.
Please see our timeline below:
10 - 13 September: Call for topics
14 September: Announcement of the selected Topic
14 - 17 September: Call for drafting team members

Veuillez consulter notre calendrier ci-dessous :
Cordialement,
Sarah Kiden
